Every manufacturer has programmed their ECU/ECM with certain settings. Years of testing, gathering information and with the help of technical data sheets we’ve been able to define new settings. We want to get the maximum out of the engine but in a safe way. An improved ridebility after tuning is just as important as increasing power and torque.
Our team adjusts various parameters in the engine management system when they perform an ECU remap/ECU flash. As an example we can increase the fuel slightly which, in combination with a more optimum ignition timing, will result in more engine power. However it’s important that the fuel/air mixture remains at an optimal ratio.
An optimum fuel mixture can improve the life of your engine and creates less pollution. A rich mixture gives a higher consumption and more pollution whereas a lean mixture results in a higher engine temperature, with less drivability as a result.
An ECU-remap can assist with i.e.:
- Improving / optimizing fuel mapping
- Improving / optimizing ignition mapping
- Deleting speed-dependent power limiter
- Removing throttle position restrictions
- Elevating idle rpm
- Increasing the rev limiter to any desired value 1
- Removing speed limiter
- Reducing excess engine braking (improving deceleration)
- Improving throttle control and throttle response
- Removal of injection stop at deceleration
- Permanently delete error
- Injector adjust phasing / Optimizing
- Velocity Stack adjust switching (only variable stacks)
- Race fuel mapping possible!
1 increasing your RPM more than 1000rpm is not advisable when you have an unmodified engine!
ECU-flash of Piggyback (Tuneboy, Powercommander, Rapid bike etc.)?
One of the most common questions we get: “Is an ECU-flash the same as a Piggyback?”
The answer is short, No!
ECU’s of modern engines are programmed more tighter these days. A piggyback is a unit that is added (an extra box) and is able to bypass symptoms such as a dip in the power curve by an injection time that’s too short. A Piggyback can adjust injection times with more power as a result.
With an ECU remap we modify the ECU file. Restrictions because of environment and security (limiting torque and speed) will be eliminated at the source. With an ECU-flash your bike will stay original, nothing touchable will be added. When you compare an ECU-flash with a Piggyback, you can change much more when you flash an ECU, because data from the ECU itself will be changed. Only the software from your original ECU is optimized. We’ll keep a copy of the original software from your ECU so we can always flash your ECU back to its original state. After the ‘flash back’ your ECU will be exactly the same as it was before the flash.
A combination of a flash and a piggy back is possible. The ECU remap increases the boundaries and optimizes settings while the Piggyback can be used to make minor adjustments, or fine-tune specific settings to your motorcycle.
What can I expect from the ECU-flash:
Dependent on the type of motorcycle you could increase the power as an average between 7 to 12%. Of course it’s desirable to increase the power even more but, a motorcycle that accelerates better, is more responsive to the throttle, and has no unnecessary limitations is just as important.
We always try to achieve the best results without too much stress on the engine, because most engines run too poor at certain rpm’s. The motorcycle, in that area, will consume more fuel after the flash. But when you do not change your driving behavior, the engine will consume less fuel after an ECU-flash.
